Femur in the City

Femur chills in the big city. There should be another character hanging out with him but I haven't figured out how to draw her yet.
One of my projects I've been doing lately has involved making stamps about NZ innovations. I was getting frustrated with one of them, but I think I figured out a way to present firearms in a way that people will accept. What do you think? I think it would make the youth start using regular postage more often. Or at least dirty old men. And they would only buy the stamp... They wouldn't actually send it to anyone...
Ms NZ By the way, so she IS relevant kinda.

Bourne

I'm a big fan of the Bourne Whatever series. In fact it's about the only set of movies I watch annually. The camera work and the way the scenes are mapped out really draw me into it. It makes you feel like your tagging along to see what happens. And those huge ass establishment shots? Friggin awesome.
I took the games approach and drew someone who didn't look anything like Matt Damon and instead went for the generic action movie douche bag.

Femur again.
I'm not sure what I was meant to post here. Since I got owned by a particularly bad bus headache and the awful feeling I might throw up at any minute between this post and the last.
Oh well, How about we make it: Mum always makes you feel better.

Pokemon Girl

I have a thing for firsts. First posts, first past the post, first post-it notes. This doodle wasn't an official one in the book (It is now though, with some quick swipes from a scalpel and a good lick-a-glue. This is my first *shudders* FAN. ART, I have ever really done. It's also the first digital piece as well. I merged the sketch and the unfinished photoshop painting together.

Also today I ran into the set of the new Power Rangers show. It was being filmed over at Westwave. They changed the signage to make it look like a more generic pool place. I'm figuring it was the black power ranger I saw, because he was... Black. There were some blonds sitting around as well. But who knows what was happening with them.

Crowd Participation

Crowd participation is hilarious when said crowd has no idea what to do. For the remainder of the skit everyone thought Robert was part of it since he decided to make the sounds of a crowd.
Talking about church, I've got the job of filming the various things we do over the week, to show the olds on Sunday who don't get out much whats happening.
First up is Boys Zone/Boys Rally. I got confused when making it. Back in the day it was called Boys Rally. I'm not sure why they went and changed it to a boy band name.
Anyway, it was good times filming, gave me flash backs to when I was that age, stamping round the hall. Last week they went and saw the superbikes, blasting around at over 200km/h. P.s. This vid won't be going into the vids section of the blog, I feel its relevance to anything is tentative at best.

Ben Folds

Hmmm, not very well drawn...
Ben Folds is one of those artists who I'm not sure I would like as a person. But that's ok. Since he's been pumping cool music since before I was born. This probably shouldn't have been what my doodle was about today. It should have been about getting a high five from the lady working at Dollar Dealers.

In other news I just got my third gym badge.

Disney: The four reactions

There's been a small trend lately towards Disney marathons. Or at least, the proposal of such an event met with varying degrees of approval. Mine being the strongest against. Maybe it's because I didn't have TV as much as a kid, or maybe my lack of excitement when it comes to musicals. I like looking back at a lot of the movies with fond memories yes, but I have a feeling I would ruin them for myself if I watched them now. Dragging my rose coloured childhood memories out into the stark light of stone cold adult observation doesn't sound like a great idea. This happened with Hercules, and I realized it wasn't as great as I had previously thought.
Although to counterpoint my own argument. I rewatched Lion King, and it almost made me cry.

Time Management

What this and my last post is illustrating, children, is how to get a stunted mark from your lecturers. Eric is pretty rad though, although I'm still getting used to his demeanor. I got flustered and gave a bogus presentation today due to it (That and my confusion with grid systems. I so desperately wanted to say it was built on five columns not on the apparent two.)

For the first time since 2002 I'm making a concerted effort to play Pokemon again. Not the best time to start, I realize that. Especially since I just drew a comic about time management. I got Pokemon White. Started with my fire type pig thing. Seriously, its hard to talk about any of the critters since I don't know their names. Talking to Becky and Harry about it, I sound like i'm bringning normal animals into servitude. "Oh yeah, I caught the cat one along with the beaver thing."
They speeded up the starting process at the begining. You wake up, get your pokemon in your own room, fight in your room, trash the shit out of it, and then gap it, letting your mum deal with your mess. Nice way to start your adventure to adulthood, dick.
Team rocket or whatever the "Team" was last time has got a new makeover. They believe pokemon shouldn't be caught and fought with. Which is fair enough, if the only mode of conflict wasn't FIGHTING WITH THEIR POKEMON. I wouldn't have minded if it was human vs. Pokemon. That would have been fun. Instead of hiffing a pokeball they just walk out and take turns pummeling your pokemon "For the greater good."

NOOO!

All was quiet during the class, and throughout the design school there was a general lull in chatter. The squeak of the marker running across the white board could be heard as Elette drew arrows that represented story arcs.
Becky brought the can of demon to her lips slowly, paying half attention. Izak watched. His heart beat quickening. Would he hold back and let this opportunity go to waste? No he wasn't. As she brought the can to her lips, already smelling the sweet scent of suga- "NOOOOO!"
When asked about the outburst I simply said I wanted to scare the crap out of her. Our teacher, Elette was able to use the ruckus to illustrate a point and all was right with the world.

Hey check it out, the kids must have been watching Home Alone or something.

Bent Hourglass

I almost missed this day. Fortunatly I had done a drawing earlier in the day that I plundered out of my notebook and stuck in my doodle a day. Give her a big coat and black hair and she's a minor player in my Femur story.

Spot the spare key in this photo. Note to family. Leaving Hammers next to glass front doors is probably the least best of the worst ideas you can have.

Viruses

It was one of those days. Yeah, you know the ones, the ones that have a "21st of March" to represent them... Look. A giant toilet roll on a door.

In a world of normal hipped people, my chicks are screwed when it comes to flying.
Just to prove I haven't forgotten about februaries video, Here's a tenny tiny video from feb.

Blue Squares

"...But no matter where he looked, no light source could be found. 'The light must come from somewhere though,' he pondered to himself. He sat down on the edge of the cube and pondered the weird light phenomenon as the three counter balance cubes revolved around the underside of the Alpha cube."

Yeah, it's not often Becky has a sway on my scribbles, but she went and linked me this wicked video. The rest is history.

Kyle day 1

This does not do his awesome entry any justice. Class just about to start, the door bursts open. Kyle steps into the threshold, looks around for a moment, lolls his head back and his shoulders drop. He lets out a massive sigh and mooches across the room to his seat.

Robbery In Progress

I have been drawing a mock up for my comic today, so I'm sick and tired of drawing, hence this ones appalling state.
So I'm sitting in the bus at Westgate. Waiting for the driver to finish his fag, when all of a sudden someone comes running out of Michael Hill Jeweler. I didn't see them, But I saw the big breasted lady chasing after her, quickly followed by the Jeweler assistance. Our driver sprints off after whoever ran out. Unfortunatly the lady was weighed down by her assets (as well as slowed by her heeled shoes), and the driver was to far away and had a lung full of tar. Apparently a car (out of sight from the bus) was waiting outside for the chick to gap it to. They drove off, but the pursuers managed to get the number plate, and the local cop station wasn't to far off.
I'm unaware of what happened after. There doesn't seem to be any news about it online.
I was personally gutted that I missed out on a great opportunity to tackle someone onto concrete for a perfectly legit reason.

On another note, check out the Uni walls so far. I brought my massive chick poster in to adorn the wall. Another one magically appeared out of nowhere as well. Seriously, we have no clue where it came from, although I was blamed for it, so I just rolled with it.
The quote was made today by one of our lecturers Phil. One of the girls thought it would be a smart idea to try out Comic Sans.

Yeah, me and Harry nicked the give way sign as well. Nicked as in "found a better home for."

Birthday Sex

Keir normally asks me whether I'm behind in my doodles. She's normally wrong. But for the past week she has been completely right! No shit. I forgot to post this one. I'm discussing important birthday stuff with Matt in front of his dear sweet wife. Who happens to be wrong again starting from now.
Matt's a Table tennis fiend. Well. Maybe not the game, but he shows that ping pong ball who's boss.

Hi, I'm Femur

Femur is a character who's about to get his own lil' comic for a uni project. Get to know him. He's pretty normal all in all. He is incredibly short and squat. the top of his head would probably get to chest height.

You will probably remember a post I did a week or two ago about the graffiti getting buffed. Well nows our chance to do something about it.

Transcendent High Five

... Although even an average high five would have transcended the "Joke". Later on we decided that the high five deserved a high five, but we didn't get around to it.

Punk Girl 2

It was only a matter of time before the punk girl reappeared. I guess she's the backup character for when absolutely nothing happens during my day worth mentioning.

Perhaps the only thing worth mentioning is that today on the internet I saw a severed hand in the mouth of a crocodile and a guy shoot himself in the foot during a gun safety seminar.

Oh yeah, I set my last.fm account up. Which is a super rad way to waste a day that was supposed to be dedicated to uni junk.

Fly Face II

This is an annoying phenomenon that's appearing lately. Mostly because I'm crashing in places I don't normally occupy. For instance, this never occurs in my own bedroom, but in our computer/spare room it does.
The other day I saw Paranormal Activity 2. The first one I laughed all the way through. But was freaked out later. It's like latent horror or something. The fact thats it's mostly just little things moving around is what gets you. Because that happens all the time regardless of whether a demon has it in for you.

But to be honest, a Demon that pulls your pool cleaner out every night is just lame. They shouldn't have bothered with a sequel. They should also not bother with sequels of Avatar. But no one ever takes my advice and they'l probably make millions of dollars regardless of what a blogger thinks, so go ahead. Make Fern Gully part 2.

Japan just took a massive beating from the earth. It was 8000 times worse than the Christchurch quake. I can't even comprehend that.
Also there are reports on a nuclear meltdown in Okuma. This is the first in my lifetime, since the last one was in Chernobyl, Ukraine, in 1986.
I hope I don't have to talk about any catastrophes for a while now.

Beer! I Command Thee!

This is the first time I have drawn Quin, I was told to do the stubble curly. Kinda looks pubic now.

Twas a fun night celebrating Matts 22nd.

Disabled Toilets

This didn't happen, but it was Harry using the disabled toilets that made me think of it. Becky came up with the punchline.
After showing this around it turns out that It's happened quite a bit to people. Although their reactions tend towards embarrassingly washing their hands and GTFOing.

End of Book 1

First of all, Yes, that is a hole leading to the back cover. Second of all, yes, it's the end of my first doodle book. Woo. Milestone. I now have an ugly blue overpriced one to start on. I will make it my personal mission to make it look presentable.

Today I went to Mark1 and got the DnD Essentials Rules Compendium. Woop woop. Super exciting.

Text Book Doodles

This was chopped out of one of my text books and stuck in my book. Yes, those grey lines are ESSENTIAL INFORMATION I need, but would willingly sacrifice for the good of the doodles on the other side.

I forgot my doodle today, that's why... Practicing my character for my comic I'm doing for uni.

Racism Abounds

I tried sticking faithfully to what I look like at the moment. hence the weird amount of hair under the nose, and the dribble of snot. I'm still a little under the weather.
Brace for blogrant!

It seems that we are once again jumping on the "Go speed racist!" bandwagon. The guys at Top Gear went and said some cliches about some cars and whoops! Now Mexicans think the British are all Xenophobes. That's a bit of a generalization. But isn't that what defines racism?
Just as a bit of an analysis of what they said, strictly speaking, it was talking about cars and oldschool styled cartoon characters of mexicans. I'm pretty sure they know mexicans aren't exactly like that.
It seems that every day we are having to pick sides.
Pop culture, and especially entertainers seem to be getting a bit of a rap lately. A black god in the Thor movie? The fanboys must be racists if they want people to actually resemble the characters their playing.
Although strangely enough I haven't heard many complaints about Nick Furry being played by Samuel L. Jackson. But thats because Sam is freakin THE MAN and can play anyone he likes.
Casting for the Hobbit ran into a little trouble when some chick threw a shit because she didn't meet the specs for becoming a Hobbit. Diddums, I was to tall, but I'm not complaining about them being Hightest. Seriously, if you whip out the race card at every opportunity your just cheapening it and making it less credible when actual racist attacks occur. (The scary thing about the linked article is that apparently it went largely unreported at first.)
We also have our very own Paul Henry, who got fired for what was less racism as it was giggling at a funny name.
Also back home we have Hone Harawira, a politician, so should be taken more seriously than a breakfast news host. He talked about White Mother Fuckers. I think if we're going to throw someone out of a job for laughing at a name, calling a decent proportion of the country you work for a "mother fucker" should be a free deportation out of here. Note: for those not up with the news he got fired in February this year.

Now lets go over that last paragraph again, If that was reversed to talking about "black mother fuckers" I'm sure that story wouldn't have played out for another 2 years before coming to an end.

But at the end of the day, I would prefer everyone to able to speak their mind about other races and cultures freely. Likewise, People can take the comments any way they like. Perhaps they could take it on board as a sort of cultural critique, how can you improve next time your building a national persona?
If people don't say what they're actually thinking then we would all be liers, and only politicians lie. And we don't all want to be yucky politicians now do we?

Next time on Izak "Controversy" Smells: Interracial Gay Marriage

Laughing Hysterically

My sister Rebekah (Note the difference between Becky and Rebekah) came in and asked me this. We both realized the absurdness of this and started laughing.
"I don't sound very convincing do I?" she said.
"No not really."

I leave you with some final images of post quake Littleton.

An Awful Smell

It's not often I get sick. Of course it had to happen right as I'm going back to uni and starting to feel the first pangs of pressure to get things done.
Fortunately a rank toilet took my mind off it for a while.
More shots from Littleton for ya. This is the more dramatic pics. For a lot of the buildings all the overhang on them has just dropped clean off. Others are riddled with cracks, and corners knocked off.

Morphy girl

Harry: Your'e only saying that cause you can't draw them.
Becky: ... Yeah..

Rather than some graff pics as usual I shall turn our attention to Littleton, a stones throw from Christchurch. Dad got these pictures last week while he was down there on the ship. You can see that the main landmass has been twisting around independently from the quay and snapped the old railway lines.

Victim of the Ticklewars

Dad has always had a reputation amongst children for being a ferocious tickler. When Dad (Now granddad to the lil'ns) gets you in his sites you are the hunted. Pure terror comes over you and you do whatever you can to escape your fate. I remember locking myself in the toilet once to try and escape it. But he just waited by the door.
Now it's the grandkids turn. This happened. On my door frame. It was hilarious.

Getting Snapped

This is a reiteration. Lesson 1: don't draw penises on peoples work while they are right behind you. Lesson 2: Don't draw penises on peoples work.

Uni carpark = 0

Sorry, This one's pretty boring. I'm pretty sure I mentioned that when uni started up again my drawings would go downhill. I gave up half way through drawing this one. Drawn with the worlds only pink bic pen. (Well maybe not only, but definatly rare.)
We came back to uni on monday only to find out that our carpark (Which has always been packed) has now been replaced with the skeletal startings of a hotel. Rumour has it that this is in preparation for the world cup coupled with the fact that the design department in Auckland is shutting down. Massey squeezing the place for all its worth. "Be free!" they tell us. "be a burden upon every other small local carpark in Albany village!"
Who the hell is going to stay in that place after the world cup anyway? Do people need to spend more than a day in Albany to experience its sites and sounds? Take a stroll around the mall one day and then indulge in quaint fish 'n chip shops the next?

This isn't the first thing that has had us stirred over the looming rugby world cup either. Recently this piece by TMD went down. Located on Poynton terrace, off Pitt Street. All the local Graff blogs I keep up with have been going nuts over it. Even the Herald has picked it up. Anyway, here's my few pics I got of it. (Not as good as the Brotographer of course. But every pic counts I guess.)
