The Bear Crew

The amazing Becky went and did the background for this one. Cheers =D. This is just another line up of possible characters. I'm gonna develop the bear a little bit further. The others can all go to hell.

Ready Or Not?

Drew this while listening to everyones Blah Blahs. I probably shouldn't be so harsh about the presentations. It's just that there wasn't anything new to say about what we were presenting.
Death Cab For Cutie released their "Codes and Keys" album earlier this year. Now they're getting ready to release the Remixes CD on November 22nd. I wasn't really that rapped with Codes and Keys, but the remixes really aren't half bad.

Presentation Blah Blah

This is an illustration of how everyone's last presentation was at uni. Lets face it, We're looking at a well earned four month break from uni, and there's one painfully long set of presentations between us and that juicy freedom. Attention in that room is dreadfully lacking. Even our teacher was stoked at the end of that, and his demeanor has never lent itself to being that of joy.

TAR

Not Chell

I guess the unconscious inspiration for this one is Chell from Portal. I actually amaze myself that I remembered her name. I can't remember anyones name. How do I have the capacity to remember the name of someone who doesn't even exist on a game where the name and identity isn't even a focal point or big deal?
TAR is a name I'm starting to see around a lot lately. His little throws are pretty cool. I like 'em a lot.

Floppy Eared Rabbit

At the moment I've been playing around with character concepts and just seeing where it takes me. It's a little refreshing making things up and wondering about the potential stories behind them. That would explain why I've been doing unrelated "quotes" with a lot of my doodles lately. I wanted to just jump into the middle of a conversation between the characters and see what happened.

Half Done Robot

I started with the top right hand corner of this image, and just worked my way around, it's probably the most spontaneous way to draw. Also the quickest way to make a disaster. As the old saying goes, those who fail to plan, plan to probably try and get by anyway. Yeah, that's how it went.

Wide Robot

I think wide hips make sense on a robot. It means they can't trip over on themselves or get any loose wires caught on themselves. I mean, yeah, they would look like waddley idiots when they walked, but other than that it's fine.

Super Virus Pt.2

Well, the story I mentioned about tuberculosis turned out to be untrue. Thankfully. Or at least "inconclusive."
So lets put that one to rest for as long as possible huh?
Oh yes, lightbox view is working again on blogger, so if you give my pics a click they'l display nice and big. Also blogger is starting to give the option to make your profile a G+ one instead of a blogger one. Which is fantastic, I shifted mine immediately. So now everyone knows my real name forever and ever.

Long Hair

I saw a girl dressed like this today (the biggest sketch) and it sparked my imagination a bit. Then I started to want to draw a chick with hair that's tucked into her jacket, but is so long it pops out the bottom. I think Sonics sidekick, Tails, probably has something to do with my choice of hair colour.

Kobolds Hall

A quick illustration of a trap from a DnD 4th edition encounter entitled "Kobolds Hall". I ran through it with my players, albeit with a different story line hook. In area 4 there is a bolder, and I stupidly decided to run it, even though I didn't fully understand it. The boulder had the ability to go round corners somehow and squish all in its path (The squishing was no big deal). But its odd ability to just roll around and around was a bit of a imagination killer. Kobolds, fine, flying drakes, that's ok as well. A boulder that seemed to be self powered, not so much.
It did provide some drama though. Puddle was stuck to the floor due to a Kobold slinger who could throw glue shots. The boulder was coming ominiously closer, insta-killing the drake and heading straight for Puddle. Greek ducked down the corridor to avoid stoney death, leaving the stuck Puddle to his own devices. He decided the best course of action was to shoot himself with a offensive spell that would push him a square. A square was all he needed. It was epic.

Reasonable Explanation

As I publish this, I am nearing the completion of my third year at uni. The only thing that stands between me and that goal is two rationales, one presentation and thirteen hours.
So I will leave you with this cryptic doodle till then. Over the next little while I expect to be getting myself back on track for finishing these doodles on time.
Oh yeah, While we're here lets get some more graff out there. These are taken at the end of Lincoln Road.

Speed Portrait

Just a quicky I did while waiting for stuff to download.
Studylink has cut off my student allowance. Which blows. I need to prove to them that I've been payed crap all while recieving the allowance. You would think if they had the smarts to hook up with IRD they would also have the details they're asking me for. But no, students don't have anything better to do than going through miles of paperwork to prove they get payed on average 9 dollars a week.

Gentlemen of the Meh

Just some characters I muddled out. They kind of felt like some sort of league. Solving mysteries like why the battery operated torch stopped working, the strange disappearances of people from Facebook, and whether or not the bearded lady down the street is in fact even a lady at all.

I have two cups of liquid on my desk at the moment. One is filled with Orange Juice and the other is holding Coke. They seem to be racing to see who becomes the most discusting first. Coke took an early lead when it became flat and not worth drinking any more but OJ is countering by settling its contents to the bottom. The top is going watery while the bottom is starting to go quite solid.
I'll keep you posted.

Needs a hyphen

Actual quote from one of my lecturers at uni. It slightly frightened me at first because I didn't hear that coma after my name.
Relient K has just released its new covers album "K is for Karaoke". It's aight. but not as awesome as what they said at the end of their post. It seems they are about to "retreat for the Fall to write a new original RK album!"
So that's exciting news right there. Way more exciting than a cover album in my opinion.

Blue Comic Sans

True story. Although it was actually on a powerpoint presentation. Fortunatly they also thought a gradient would look super slick, so the blue slowly faded to white, so at least I could read half of what they were presenting.
Last week Mutemath released their next single off the album Odd Soul. The full album is coming out just around the corner, October 8th. I'm pumped.

Super Virus

This one kind of sprang to mind. My little Niece has been diagnosed with tuberculosis. Apparently she's had it for two years already but the doctor in Burma forgot to tell anyone. (True story)
So now I get to sit around and fret, falling further and further into the extreme internet sport of hypochondria, wondering if I'm a carrier, infecting everyone and everything I know with a disease I associate with black and white movies and London in a time when sewage systems were science fiction.
Here's a shot from the Lincoln Road, the old winery building or whatever it was is getting slowly demolished, and as such, attracted a lot of graffiti on the inside, and a couple of sweet pieces on the outside.

TARNS

We'll Survive

Well the Blogger lightbox feature went down after a couple days. Apparently people were moody about how it worked so Blogger went "FINE. If you aren't gonna be happy with the way it works then no one gets to play with it!" So for now viewing images are set to high on the Lame-O-Meter.
The All Blacks caned France the other day, which I'm very pleased about. The only point France deserved was that one interception. The others were just dodgy as heck. (Woa, I'm talking about rugby, way to alienate the normal readership.)

Guns and Sexy Clothing

That's something I never really got. The guns and girls thing. Because I don't know many chicks who like guns. And I know fewer girls still who like to wear hardly anything into battle. And the overlap between those two things isn't big enough to explain a real life basis for this particular shtick. So I'm gonna put it down to tank-girl and dudes wanting an excuse to draw the two subjects in the same picture. I mean, I know I did.

I've been holding out on the graffiti pics lately. To be honest i've been holding out on the everything pics recently. So I better stop being a slacker and inject some pics into the bottom of my posts again.

IFM BLIP!

All Over Nothing

This post has been getting increased traffic over the last couple days, so I thought I should probably make the picture crisper and clearer than the old one. Plus you can download the Anonymous facebook profile pic as a vector now. Knock yourself out.
Edit: The Facebook default Anonymous guy is now a full illustrator vector EPS. Go crazy.

A tribute to "All Over Coffee" a fantastic newspaper comic(?).
Finally got the magazine presentation over and done with today. I'm happy to have worked with such a good looking team for the duration. Time to knock a few names off Facebook. Or maybe just Facebook entirely. Like my profile pic? Do you think I might mistakingly be mistaken for one of 'em Anonymouses?

Maybe If I wait

Click Me

I figure this will make a good a test as any on trying out a new format.
It was my birthday the other day and yeah it was awesome. I got more DnD stuff, that is to say, the Monster Box, which despite how it sounds isn't a jumbo bin of fireworks but a box full of monster stats and tokens and maps. We played an epic game of DnD a couple days ago, the game lasted a good 8 hours at least. So value for money there. That's a combined time of 24 hours amongst all three of us. I spent 60 bucks on the monster box, 30 on the Red Box (good starting point, I recommend newbies getting this as a taste test) and about 120 on the Essentials Rule Compendium and Heros of the Fallen land book for the players. 210 bucks, I guess that's a lot to pay for to start up a game, but I don't regret a single cent, considering it could keep me and a bunch of other people entertained for an extremely long time in the long run.

Lame Free Stuff

Another little story from the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony. It pretty much rolled out exactly like that. I tried giving it to some Asians first though but they ignored me good and proper. I guess saying "Free thing for the thing!?" probably isn't the best way to convince people that taking your rubbish is a good idea. Unless you do it to kids, who will take anything. Since the joy of life hasn't been sucked out of them yet and any bit of rubbish is a big barrel of potential fun.
Oh yes. CLICK ON THE PICTURE. Pretty nifty huh? Blogger totally added the new lightbox feature just this morning. It's really changed the way I can do doodles now. I haven't wanted to do landscape imagery yet since it would be to small to really see without clicking on. But now that there is a nice way to present an expanded image I might start giving it a go. I promise not to go to crazy though since I know this doesn't work within feeds and things.

Matt Graduates

I don't want to sully this post with needless rambling. But let it be known that Matt has graduated and moved on from being a student and is now taking up full time employment as a layabout. Ha, kidding. Grats man.

Road Cone Shoutout

Me, her, and him decided that we would brave the Rugby World Cup opening ceremonies (here on out known as the RWC). Let's make it clear, I thought it was a bad idea, but was game anyway, because to be honest, when are you ever gonna see that many people in NZ? Becky was keen to go and was the main advocate of our trip, because once again, when are you ever gonna see so many people plus fireworks? Matt really didn't like the idea of coming because of the aforementioned people, but since he really had nothing better to do and no decent excuse, he came along and took on the roll of photographer.
We decided to take public transport because that seemed to be the done thing. We took the train (and anyone who's read anything about the WRC in the herald or on the news knows where this is going already). We got on at Henderson, and by that point it was already standing room only. Fortunatly it was a free ride, so we got to use transport money for Burger Fuel later. There was a pair of girls who kept shouting "Go All Blacks!" "Screw All Blacks!" I'm sure if they were a bit uglier someone would have punched them. Britomart was stacked with people and they did a good job of ferrying us out.
I'll probably get into the guts of what else happened during the opening ceremonies in town another time, what this post is for though is to talk about the transport situation. We watched the fireworks up by the rose gardens in Parnell and it was fantastic. We then waited for the crowds to disappear before we made our way back to Britomart. There were massive ques for the trains, stretching right out of the building. We stood in line for about fourty minutes, moving a few metres during that time. Fortunately we had the entertainment in the form of everyone around us. In particular a drunk lady who was stoked that her kids had payed for all her drinks and she had managed to give them the slip. She was a wiley one, and managed to talk herself through the crowd. Wouldn't do her much good however, since eventually a conductor came along and shouted to the crowd that the bus had stopped and wasn't going anywhere, and that people had been pressing the emergency stop button. I read later on that the train had already been stopped for some time and people had started to press the buttons because some kids started fainting from heat exhaustion.
Anyway, we were informed that there were replacement buses coming to pick us up. So the huge crowd suddenly turned into a huge school of fish (like you see cycloning on those documentaries) flurrying for the pick up location. four buses came and went. One was stopped in the middle of the road, cutting across all lanes because it hadn't finished its turn, due to all the people pressed up against it desperate to get on. We watched this all happened and realized that we were totally screwed. There was no way we were getting on those buses. After the four buses had left there were still masses of people waiting to get out of there. Across the road and up about 15 stories were people on their verandas watching the hustle and bustle. I tried getting their attention a few times by waving at them, before I finally picked up a traffic cone and yelled at them.
To cut this massive story short, Matts folks came to the rescue and drove into town and grabbed us. The Motorways were super quiet. Matt celebrated life by going to Mc Donalds and having a mean 1a.m. feed. Me and Becky crashed.

It's Ok I Guess

Based on a not true story.
It occurs to me that nothing fantastically interesting has happened to me lately. Normally if this were the case I would give up blogging till something came up. But since I have forced myself to be obliged to post here everyday for an entire year I have really laid myself bare for the world to see. Most people do this anyway, but usually amongst the comfort of their own friends or fellow twitterers. Blogs are no place to write about doing nothing (or at least in my opinion). So do I only write in here when I have something to say? Or should I battle on, pretending a new thought has occured to me in the time it's taken me to write up the next comic, scan it, and upload it onto the com-puda?
Oh yeah, the Corbans Art Gallery has a cool little show for Peter Sauerbier running at the moment. You should check it out. You don't have to be arty to think his stuff looks awesome. Who doesn't dig a gun like the one pictured below?

Context is Everything

Well I got around to uploading the magazine. You can check it out here, or over in the library, depending on how scared you are of being linked to outside sites.
I have there is a seesaw effect when getting jobs. "Oh man, you know what we should do? We should make websites, we would be the bomb!" "Man I hate talking to people. I don't wanna say anything, what if they laugh in my face. We need someone to find us web jobs." "I got the guts to talk to someone! It was awesome, and not half bad, and the world is a beautiful place." "On second thought they probably thought I was a complete dropkick, I probably blew our chance at ever getting the job. Sorry bro." "We got the job! No way! Awesome! We really are the bomb!" "I think I lost my ability to design and make things look good while I was asleep last night. I think it was the Bk I ate."
Bk is like that one episode of Fringe, where that lady gets instantly pregnant and in labour and then dies. And then the baby grows into an old man three hours later and dies of old age. That's pretty much EXACTLY like a burger king meal.

Colour & Bust

May I introduce the Infinite Canvas Project. I recently got introduced into the world of responsive web design, however I am not what one would call a genius when it comes to code. I can muddle by. But mostly just muddle up. But I wanted to get in on thinking about web design differently, and one thing I have always liked is the idea of the Infinite Canvas. Why do we write things so small? Why do we make lots of little things for the internet? Why not BIG things? We got all this space we may as well use it. So yeah, that's what I'm up to.

Gamerlad Ep18 Help Desk

A couple more days and my facebook profile will dissipate into the tranquil bays of non existence, with only a residue of information about myself stuck to the palate of the world eater "facebook". Will I regret it? no. Will I miss it. Definitely not.
We handed in our magazine for printing today. Much like any day when we have to hand something in for printing, it was hectic and full of stress. Anyway, it's out of our hands now, and all we can do is sit around and wait for a finished product to miraculously appear out of nowhere. We settled on CM Digital to get our job done this time. The last time I had gone inside that place I had a less than impressive printout done for this project, which crazily enough was my first project ever for uni.

Gamerlad Ep17 Kicked Out

I was going to write something really wistful here and maybe link to a song by Ben Folds. But I kept changing my mind, wondering if the merit would outweigh the cheesiness.
Turns out Cheesiness is really heavy.
