Minecraft 8bit Art

Me and Matt were playing our seperate games the other day and I was telling him all about the latest misadventure in Dwarf Fortress. Matt cut off with "Man all I think about when you talk about this stuff is Minecraft... I'm gonna play Minecraft."
As you can tell, Matt has a very linear thought pattern. I decided my boredom with Minecraft could be cast aside for the night in the name of sociability. And besides, the last time I played villagers were a brand new concept. It was amazing. They stood around being creepy and everything... So after mucking around for a while we decided we needed a project to work on. Thus we built our lead protagonist in Project: Snow.
97 blocks tall I think? 70 something wide.

8bit Friend Sprites

There's the concept sprite I did of the red head guy before I drew him up in the last episode. All the others are mates of mine who've put in a request for sprites of their own. Although you never know. They might appear in the comics for a second, and then get brutally murdered in some outlandish embarrassing fashion. This pixel art stuff is so much fun! Seriously, you have to give it a shot. Being limited like this kind of gives you more room to have fun. You can stop worrying about how your stuff isn't amazingly photo-realistic or whatever.

Snow: Episode 8

Red hair! Why's he ginger you ask? He isn't he's #9b2022 so shhhh. How do other artists do their colour palettes? Do you guys keep a file with all the colours or something that you can eyedrop from? Or do you have a file with all the values written down? I guess it's something we all find our own solutions for. I just open up the previous canvas and eyedrop all the colours from there. It seems like the simplest, fastest solution to me.
Matt's starting to come up with story arcs and character secrets independent of our writing/drawing sessions. It's kind of exciting finding out there's stuff about our characters I don't know.

Things that make me Excited

Tonight has been a night of revelations for me. Many new things have been announced and I'm worried that I will let some of them fall between the cracks of daily life, never to be seen again until I find them in a couple years. Lying behind the couch of idle boredom and pop culture, irrelevant and woefully malnourished.

First thing I found out was that Yellowcard is releasing its new album "this summer" Which is a bit like when you ask your parents when they're gonna leave and they say "soon." because "soon" is always far long than what the dictionary defines "soon" as. If they are going to be correct though should really say "as soon as it's annoying and inconvenient for you."

Then I found out THIS was on the internet. The wait is over past Izak.

Then I got excited that the music was all original, and just as rad as the films stuff. So I did some research and found out the guy who composed the score worked on the movies stuff, as well as Raid: Redemptions score. Huh.. Just realized I never raved about that movie on my blog. Oops. Well, it was an awesome movie and now you're gonna have to wait for the western remake if you want to see it at the movies. Lets just say I'm buying the DVD as soon as it comes out.

And then I found out there was a Raid:Redemption comic which was kinda cool. And I love life so leave me alone.

Snow: Episode 7

For the international crowd who may not be "up" on oceanic "lingo", hiff means throw pretty much.
You know, I think I prefer drawing robots over humans. They're just so much cooler than fleshbags.

So I'm still playing Dwarf Fortress. I'm up to building my second fortress. It's in its 3rd year at the moment with over 120 dwarves in my command. The first fortress perished in its first winter, when all the ponds froze up and my dwarves died of dehydration, since one of us (either me or them) are to stupid to figure out how to melt snow or find underground streams. The last dwarf spent his final moments making coffins and being gagged by the miasma that was coming off all the withered corpses littering the halls... It was fun.

My current issues have been children growing up and suddenly realizing they don't have any clothes, making them embarrassed, and eventually really pissed off. I think I've been able to avert this problem with the last trade caravan bringing cloth for me to make stuff out of.

Just jump on there and search #projectsnow for a helpful selection of what's floating round on there that's relevant. Even got some classy art direction tips from Quin.
This is also the blogs 600th blog post! Woo. Only taken me five years.
