Josie Rizal - Tekken 7 8Bit
The new Tekken 7 has gone ahead and released another new character. I'm pretty chuffed with the new characters so far. They feel varied and are finding new countries to represent. I kind of like the idea of a global royal rumble. Josie Rizal is Filipino, her colours are representative of their flag and she's named after the countries greatest national hero and does Eskrima and kickboxing, however she still isn't Filipino enough for the Gulf News. "it doesn’t have any trace of Filipino-ness-neither in her physical attributes* nor in her outfit."
I got my mate a job working beside me and it's been super fun having him around. Unfortunately no amount of fun can cover up how much of a shit this place can be on occasion so he's moving on to bigger and better things (Like a mint pay rise, nice!)
Remember me brother, as you take your new place among the stars at the bottom of "Queen Street".
*giant tits.

Cross Eyed Orange Girl
Times are pretty good for productivity, even with Far Cry 4 eating into my time.

#Zeroplace Chapter 1
Welcome to the first chapter of my new webcomic #Zeroplace, a story about two friends eschewing responsibility for one more year as they go on a roadtrip around the country of their birth. It'll cover everything from disaster, freedom, love, and the widening of worldviews as they meet new people along the way.
You can follow me on tumbler to get regular updates, or you can just wait for me to drop chapters right here on Izaksmells.com. I chose Instagram partly because I need to keep practicing drawing in real life, while I'm at work and during lunches. I'm carrying my notebook and pen everywhere, and most of my writing for this is done on the bus. Essentially I'm turning the grey "inbetween" parts of my life into interesting ones again. Also I kind of consider Instagram a "youthy" place where the kids I'm portraying would probably put their adventures. So it fits perfectly. Enjoy!

My Friends All Hate You - Blobby World Cover
There it is! The cover is complete! Obviously the right hand side is the front of the book, while the left will be the back.
While working on this cover I decided to drop the "Broken Rainbow" moniker in favour of the little subtitled "Blobby World" because Broken Rainbow sounds too artsy while Blobby World describes everything you really need to know.
The small sub text at the bottom may be moved around etc in the final final pdf that will be print ready.
The girl on the far left freaking out at her friends getting eaten is directly based on Cara Delevingne in some Top Shop clothes. The other chick on the right is based on someone as well but I can't remember who. Becky helped me figure out how her hair should go.
A lot of these characters popped up in the book as well, if you can't remember, here they all are:
Balloon Park Bench Guy - Bear - Giant Man Eating Worm - Gratuitous Lump - Piggy Back Couple
I'm currently working on the order, as well as fixing up typos while preparing the files for print. Also I need to think of some sort of bio or something for the back.

Instagram Roundup April
So I've started an Instagram account. I've held out for a while but now I've found a decent reason to do one. You can follow it if you like, just search "izaksmells" and you'll find it. Or you can just wait for the monthly roundup here. Pretty much the idea is to get me back into doing actual drawing, on bits of paper with some sort of marking impliment. Like a Neanderthal. It's also a handy place to collect the random sketches I do absent-mindedly on bits of paper. What you won't find on my instagram is A. My face B. Sunsets for no reason C. Real things (mostly) D. Pixel Art E. Digital Art
It will be mostly a voyeuristic look into my sketch books and random quotes from my friends. Quality isn't guaranteed. Also I have a comic on there about a roadtrip, which I'll collect here for your benefit when I've finished the first chapter. You can go hunt it down for a sneak peek if you really like at #zeroplace. When I've got the first chapter finished I'll put it here and let you decide whether or not I should keep doing it or not.

Samurai/Archer Progress
Yesterday I got most of the "loading arrow" animation done. I just need to do a variety of different aiming directions then I'll be done with the archer for now. I'll probably need to go back and do some sort of "appearing" animation and death animations. We'll see.

ANZAC Weekend Art Dump
Here's a quick doodle I did to warm up.
It's ANZAC weekend, the 100th anniversary in fact. We have a mate in the Navy whose actually at Gallipoli for the occasion. My brother whose in the Airforce in Dubai at the moment got woken up by me at 2am (his time) to ask some quick questions about where the fiber internet is gonna get drilled into his house. He had to wake up 2 hours later to get ready for the occasion over there. Sorry man.
When I was first deciding character size I did a variety of options to visualise and figure out which one felt the most comfortable to work with.
I just finished up the run cycle. It may get a rework. When I get it signed off I might post a GIF up.
